Artificial cement tree and lava barrier to create a clay dig zone for Komodo Dragons in their remodeled exhibit at the Woodland Park Zoo.

Working with WPZ animal welfare and our project management team I worked to design this piece, created the scale model, co-metal fabricated and structure coated, carved, stained, painted and sealed this piece.

2 story cement Big Leaf Maple den and climbing tree and cement Cedar, Maple and Birch trees for perching and feeding for Lynx exhibit at the Woodland Park Zoo.

Working with WPZ animal welfare and our project management team I designed a 2 story Big Leaf Maple faux tree to provide shelter and enrichment, along with a Cedar, Birch, and Maple for perching and food enrichment. I then created the scale models, co-metal fabricated all trees, structure coated, carved, stained, painted and sealed all trees. I strategically combined in shop and on-site building, working in tandem with local contractor Sellan to manage the worksite.

Giant Ants created for the Adventure Trails interactive play and education area at the Henry Doorly Zoo.

Ant build includes rebar structure, carved EPS foam, fiber glass, and sculpting epoxy. I collaborated with another sculptor on the design and execution of these pieces, each of us individually sculpting one ant of our own and co-sculpting the third in the series.

Front of exhibit hot spot tree for the remodeled Komodo Dragon Exhibit at the Woodland Park Zoo.

In tandem with Animal Management and a PM I designed and sculpted a scale model. Myself and another metal fabricator built the interior steel structure and applied the structure coat. I personally carved, stained, and painted the final tree.

To draw the Komodo to the front of the exhibit I, with a collaborator and working with Animal Management, created a hot spot. We began by building a simulated environment and tested heat lamps to achieve 135 degrees 6” off of our surface. The tree was designed to give the Komodo a comfortable rest space underneath the heat.

Artificial concrete tree with signage and characters for themed private property entrance.

Created as a fairytale like entrance for a private property including custom tree design, bespoke signage and one of a kind animal greeter.

This structures serves as the center piece for the Adventure Trails interactive and play area at the Henry Doorly Zoo.

I designed and fabricated the semi-transparent fiberglass swing, the oversized leaves, and contributed to sculpting the butterfly.

The fiberglass Chrysalis swing has a rotating wing mount built into its top, with an interior seat. Made from boat cloth over a foam form, which was later removed, the swing is both sturdy and thin, allowing for light to pass through, showing the occupants silhouette.

A series of more than 20 custom giant mushrooms for the Adventure Trails interactive kids play area at the Henry Doorly Zoo.

Fabricated with foam, fiberglass, and epoxy these mushrooms make up a fantastical but realistic climbing zone for kids.

I took this piece from design to completion, co-fabricating the rebar structure and personally carving and acid staining the final piece/

An 8 tree climbing structure created for our new Sloth Bear cubs to help teach them how to climb and provide enrichment.

This was a challenging project, requiring all trees to be completed off the job site and then craned in, setting perfectly into 6 fixed connection points.

To meet our stringent tolerances I created a detailed build model, calculated tree weights, and worked with a structural engineer for footing size and other structural components.

I co-built the metal fab for the trees, personally did structure and texture, acid stained and painted, and worked on site for installation.

Additional enrichment elements were built into the tree.

WPZ Concrete Trees

Concrete trees scattered through exhibits for enrichment and anchoring of real deadfall.

To support the feature trees and rocks I create additional concrete trees as needed to spread enrichment features, such as feeding clips or anchors for wobbly "balance" deadfall to attach to. These are designed to be built off-site in the shop to shorten the timeline of on-site build and install. I begin the design of each tree with a scale design model, followed by a structural build model.

Honeycomb climbing structure with giant bee for the Henry Doorly Zoo Children’s Adventure.

Created honeycomb texture and coated acrylic ”windows” to look like honey. Sculpted the oversized bee with metal interior structure, foam, fiberglass, and sculpting epoxy. I sculpted custom wings and created molds for casting clear wings.

Horns and Fuzzerton is a themed monster holiday installation. This not so little team of bespoke figures puts a quirky spin on the holiday season.

20” multi piece monkey statue created for a corporate scavenger hunt.

The monkey was sculpted with Apoxie, cast with mold max and plastic paste, cast as 13 separate component pieces that form the whole monkey when combined. The base has included riddles to get the team started on their hunt.

Created a series of quick 3D sketch iterations of potential bench designs and an accompanying pitch deck.

What do you do when you get the call asking you to live carve a 2,000lb pumpkin? You take the same path as that to Carnegie Hall….. practice, practice, practice. With an 8 hour live 3D pumpkin carve on the horizon I hit the 6” chainsaw like nobody’s business. It’s not concrete, epoxy, or foam, but it’s sculpting. And carving is carving.

Created display figurines for Comic Con booths and action figure series to be sold with comic book series.

A figure from the Penguins vs Possums collection was featured on Hawaii 5-0.

Zomtreatz is a line of Designer Toys based on the sweet comic book High Fructose Zombies.

This designer toy line was originally designed and fabricated to be sold alongside the comic book at comic cons. The line was picked up by the designer toy store PIC in NY’s Grand Central Terminal, and was the featured window display for Valentines day. Custom versions of the line were also sold at several New York boutiques.

Disease Detectives teaches kids about zoonotic disease in the form of solving a mystery. The interactive includes real life techniques for solving disease mysteries, such as necropsies.

When a brand new candy bar, called Snakatak, is released in the small town of Sweetooth, it’s up to Clea Brown and her ragtag group of friends to stop the evil Yumzy Corportion.

I co-created, illustrated and colored the indie comic book High Fructose Zombies, which appeared at multiple comic cons and boutique stores.
